If you have ever been fooled by something or someone you assumed to be authentic and genuine, you can understand why Joseph didn't immediately identify himself when his brothers came to Egypt to buy grain and did not recognize him. Were they the same kind of men - cruel and callous - that they were when he had known them some twenty years before? Joseph didn't know, so he put them to the test with the incident recorded in Genesis, chapter 44. As we look at this next episode in the life of Joseph, we see that when repentance is genuine, full forgiveness and complete restoration can follow.
