Sunday Night Hymn Sing

The plan was to hold an old-fashioned hymn sing outdoors on the Ramon's deck overlooking the woods, but with the threat of severe weather we had to move it indoors to their sun porch. And yet a good group came out anyway (while other areas in the state had torrential rain and even hail, we only received a gentle shower), and we had a wonderful time singing favorites out of the hymn book and chorus sheet for about an hour. Afterwards we enjoyed various snack-type foods as w

In September of 2005 Martha Cothren, a History teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal, and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks in her classroom. When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks.
“Ms. Cothren, where are our desks?”
She replied, “You can't have a desk until you

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord ap

The Sweet Words of Assurance (to Mary)

(The following is a reprint from Dr. Brent Branham's devotional "The Sweet Words of Assurance: Do Not Fear!")
Luke 1:30 "And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God."
Just try to tell some young girl who is pregnant and unmarried that she should not fear! This blessing from God (Luke 1:28) and this highly honored position (Luke 1:28, 30) must have caused great concern to Mary. No wonder Mary was troubled at the angel’s saying (Luke

On March 19, 2020 - more than two months ago - we made the difficult decision to cease holding in-person services as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold of our world. We did this in a spirit of submission, cooperation, and love: submission to what our governing authorities were asking of us, cooperation with our community to flatten the curve, and love for those in our church family considered to be at high risk of contracting the virus.
Since then, we’ve been wondering along

For church leaders and elder boards everywhere, the last few months have presented a near-constant array of complex challenges related to shepherding a church during the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest complex challenge is perhaps the trickiest yet: how to prudently resume in-person gatherings.
As if the logistical details weren’t challenging enough—how to maintain social distance and limit crowd size, whether or n

For many around the world today, the last few months have been full of stress. You’ve probably experienced it as well.
On the surface, it’s easy to think your stress centers on whether you or someone you care about gets COVID-19 or on the growing economic challenges surrounding the pandemic.
But those aren’t the real reasons stress has skyrocketed lately.
It’s because we have forgotten how good God is.
Anticipating God’s goodness is the foundation of all hope. We ca

When We All Get Back to "Normal"

Admittedly, I am a creature of habit.
In a typical week I attend the same meetings, check in on the same friends, have the same interactions with family members, watch the same shows and sporting events on television, listen to the same podcasts, stick to the same exercise routines, eat at the same restaurants, drive the same routes, enjoy the same activities at church, send the same

The current worldwide pandemic as a result of the COVID-19 virus presents a unique kind of trial. Many are experiencing the effects of the virus - loss of income, sickness, even death - while others find it a looming threat like an underwater shark moving towards them in the ocean, unseen but real. How does the child of God deal with such situations that unfortunately are a part of life in a fallen world? To encourage His people during such times God points us to who He is

What's So Good About Good Friday?
by: Thomas Struble

Why do we call Good Friday “good,” when it is such a dark and bleak event commemorating a day of suffering and death for Jesus?
What is Good Friday?
For Christians, Good Friday is a crucial day of the year because it celebrates what we believe to be the most momentous weekend in the history of the world. Ever since Jesus died and was raised, Christians have proclaimed the cross and resurrection of Jesus to be the decisive turning point for all creation. Paul considered i

The Effect of the Coronavirus on Easter Celebration

For many of us Governor Whitmer's "Stay Home, Stay Safe" executive order means celebrating the Easter holiday and the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior for the first time (or the first time in a long time) without going to church. While this may feel unnatural and unchristian to us, it was the norm for hundreds of years in the early history of the church which did not meet in church buildings but in homes. So to assist you with your celebration of Easter and the Resurrec
