One cannot enter the Lenten season, break bread on Maundy Thursday, mourn on Good Friday, or rejoice on Resurrection Sunday without first passing through the still-shocking, hard-to-believe but true story of Judas Iscariot and his betrayal of Jesus. While it’s hard to fathom, Judas was a devoted, gifted, even sacrificial follower of Jesus, up until Jesus’ final week on earth when he chooses to become the betrayer. Looking at his life we see that Judas wasted opportunity after opportunity after opportunity until there were no more opportunities, and his name went down in history in great infamy. Like Judas we receive opportunities in spite of our sin to choose Jesus and His great love, so let’s not waste them.
