We have a lot of word pictures in the English language to describe being in a predicament. There’s “painting yourself into a corner,” being “caught between a rock and a hard place,” having one’s back “against the wall” or being “in a pickle.” Any and all of those could be used to describe the predicament the prophet Jonah found himself in at the close of chapter 1 as God had pursued His rebellious prophet first with a storm and then with a great fish. Chapter 2 holds a lesson about God's pardon as Jonah cries out to God in prayer from the belly of the fish.
